This smoothie gives you a great boost for the day. It’s enriched with the popular chia seeds, a “whole grain” food usually grown organically and naturally free of gluten. I am going on with my gluten free and diary free diet, I have to admit that I am feeling very well. Despite the fact that you have to plan what to eat and find “alternative food”, it’s a good way to detox the body, we all should do it every now and then.
So enjoy this raspberry banana smoothie for breakfast, loaded with nutritious foods, fiber, Omega 3, protein and vitamins.
You can make it in advance and sip it on your journey to work.
The chia seeds swell up giving this drink a lovely texture.
- 125 gr frozen raspberries
- 1 fresh banana, peeled
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 200 ml/1 cup of almond/coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon honey, if needed to sweeten
- You can add a cup of ice (the original smoothie recipe calls for it, but I prefer without it).
If you want to maximize Chia’s benefits, you can soak a tablespoon in a glass of water overnight.
The unique property of Chia seeds is their ability to absorb up to 12 times its weight in water. Hydrated Chia slows digestion and the time it takes for your stomach to empty which means you feel full longer.
